Battle of the Experts

In engineering class, Dr.Don gave us a reading about how the jobs in our modern day are not only going to be minimally needed in the future, but can potentially be gone. Industrialization only continues to make the manual labor job available spots few. As technology continues to advance, and companies find innovative ways to make their companies successful. The internet has allowed for much more inexpensive sources that consumers can use; online legal advice that costs almost nothing compared to hiring an attorney, diagnose sicknesses online, and provide nearly anything else a human might need. By providing these sources, jobs are not going to be needed as urgently because they can find cheaper sources on the internet as well. Computers are becoming so advanced that they're nearly smarter than the people who do the jobs themselves.

The job fairs we had this week were an interesting way to get specific roles in the VR project we are working on. I began as a videographer in the project, understanding only the basics of filming video with both the 360 fly and the Recoh Theta. I interviewed for two producers, one was for the videographer and the other was for being costume/set design. I really enjoyed the fact that producers all had to interview their potential employees, and we had real 5 minute interviews that we had to participate in to be in the specific guild. I enjoyed the fact that we had to interview for the position that we wanted, and like a real job, you're interviewing with someone for a job that you want to prove that you'd exceed in. However, I would have liked the interviews to have required something that would show exactly how we are qualified in the specific role that we were applying for. I realized that after getting both jobs, understanding what the requirements for my project are crucial to being taken seriously in the real world. Although there are a lot of complications when it comes to editing, I know that because I am able to personally able to figure things out on my own, that I'll be able to manage the jobs I am given.

Advertising has played a key role in our project thus far. From pitching our VR videos before the final ones, to ensuring that we convinced people that our VR was the one to create. In english, we've looked at a lot of the ways advertising strategically uses phrases like "new and improved", "visually", and more, to get the audience interested in whatever it is they want the consumer to buy. Too often we see advertisements only looking to target the audiences due to sales increases, views, and their intentions are almost always for themselves.
